An analytic technique to separate cochannel FM signals

چکیده

A new technique is presented that can perfectly &&rat& two cochannel FM signals in a noiseless environment. The method involves the analytic solution of the phases to within one of two possibilities, and a two-state trellis algorithm to trace the correct sequence of phase solutions. This method represents an improvement over other cochanne! interference separatio2 methods (e.g., joint Viterbi and cross-coupled phase-locked loop) which can never perfectly separate the signals. Simulations confirm the separation capability of the analytic technique. . .

Constant Modulus Algorithm for Cochannel Signal Separation in Non-Gaussian Impulsive Noise Environments

The separation of cochannel signals is of interest in communication community. Some algorithms based on constant modulus (CM) have been previously developed to separate cochannel signals with the assumption of Gaussian channel noise. The mismatches of noise models between the assumed channel noise and the practical noise may occur. These mismatches will inevitably lead the performance of cochan...

Interference suppression by joint demodulation of cochannel signals

Inter-cell cochannel interference (ICCI) is an inherent problem in all cellular systems due the necessity to reuse the same frequencies after a certain reuse distance. In GSM, the fact that the number of nearby cochannel interferers is relatively small leads to a high probability of a dominant interferer (DI). Hence, suppression of DI alone provides substantial capacity improvement for GSM. The...

Multicomponent AM-FM demodulation via periodicity-based algebraic separation and energy-based demodulation

Previously investigated multicomponent AM–FM demodulation techniques either assume that the individual component signals are spectrally isolated from each other or that the components can be isolated by linear time-invariant filtering techniques and, consequently, break down in the case where the components overlap spectrally or when one of the components is stronger than the other. In this pap...

On the amplitude- and frequency-modulation decomposition of signalsa)

In general, the problem of determining the amplitude and frequency modulations ~AM and FM! of a signal is ill posed because there is an unlimited number of combinations of AM and FM that will generate a given signal. Although Gabor proposed a method for uniquely defining the AM and FM of a signal, namely via the analytic signal, the results obtained are sometimes physically paradoxical. In this...

Reduction of Cochannel Interference on the Downlink of a CDMA Cellular Architecture with Directional Antennas

This paper presents an updated architecture for a code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless communication systems with directional antennas. Cochannel interference for the proposed CDMA architecture is considered and analyzed. An analytic expression for the proposed method is derived. The performance of the proposed architecture is evaluated by means of computer simulation. The result shows...
